CLUB TRIATHLON No.2– SUTHERLAND CYCLE TRACK
RACE REPORT 7.30am Saturday 21st November 2009
Kurnell 1 was sold out, Penrith next week is sold out, our first Club Race had over 50 athletes, and this, our second Club Triathlon had just under 50 people........Triathlon this season is looking good
Statistics - Male 34 Female 10, Senior 37 Junior 7, Club Records 3, PB’s 18, New Athletes to the Cronulla Club Triathlon 14.
Hot conditions greeted us for the race but there was an exited buzz in the air as we started.
After a long absence Matt Williams, stepping up from the Junior A, broke away to smash the Course Record by 33seconds.
The Juniors also are pushing themselves to the limit with 2 new Course Records. Lilly Flynn in the Junior C’s broke the record by 2 minutes, and Ben Birchall in the Junior D’s broke the record by 1m13sec. The first 3 places in Junior D were under the old Course record.
We had word from the Wednesday night run that Gabby Vassallo was going to come down to the race.
A few months ago Gabby was involved in a car v bike accident near the airport tunnel and they were letting her out of hospital for the weekend. She arrived with her wheelchair, but walked from the car over to us. Very emotional for everyone, she is a very determined and strong woman. Gabby is in high spirits and looking good, and can still talk us under the table.
She hopes to be home by Christmas, and we hope this Christmas wish comes come true for her.
Club Triathlon No.3 Saturday 12th December, 6.45am Registration for 7.30am Start at Sutherland Cycle Track.
